THE US State department released its annual Singapore County Report on Human Rights Practices for 1999 on February 25.

The 25-page report deals with various aspects of Human Rights. While the Straits Times published an article it made no mention of what the US report had to say about opposition party personalities and in particular the court cases and jailing of Dr Chee Soon Juan for speaking in publuc without a license.

Other opposition party members mentioned in the report are: Mr J. B. Jeyaretnam, secretary general of the Workers' Party and Mr Tang Liang Hong, a member of the Workers' Party.

The department's 1998 Report on Singapore is also available on its website.

There is also a lengthy (45 page) report on Malaysia.
