They are now demanding that J.B.Jeyaretnam deposit a further $10,000.00 before he could proceed with the appeal to be discharged from brankruptcy. Why?

STATEMENT BY J.B.JEYARETNAM

Prime Minister Goh Chok Tong and Minister for Law, S. Jayakumar, are now demanding that I deposit a further $10,000.00 before I can proceed with my appealing to be discharged from brankruptcy which I have lodged to the Court of Appeal.

I have already deposited $10,000.00 as security for their costs and for the costs of the other creditors who opposed my application for my discharge. They are saying the $10,000.00 is not enough for their costs. Mr.Goh and Mr.Jayakumar have still to say why they are objecting to my discharge when I have repeatly asked them.

Mr. Goh has been paid $69,000.00 on his judgement for $100,000.00 and Mr.Jayakumar and his co-plaintiffs have been paid $166,666.00 on their judgement for $200,000.00. Their Counsel at both proceedings, before the Assistant Registrar and before the High court Judge in Chambers did not address the court on why they are objecting when they have received 69% and 83% respectively on their judgements. Instead their Counsel meekly adopted the Official Assignee's objection.
