2006 has seen the successful tenders for the Integrated Resorts (IR) and hosting of global events in the IOC session and upcoming World Bank/IMF meetings. So we are on the road to becoming a global city.
2006 has seen welfare handouts through the ComCare Fund, Opportunity Fund, Workfare Bonus and Progress Package. So we seem to be on the road to becoming a land of opportunities.
2006 has seen our renewed strong mandate for this government. But some constituencies will not get upgrading first (though their estate conditions justify their priority in the quene) in this so-called inclusivist society.
On this 41 celebration of our nationhood, Think Centre wishes for:
1. A fair Singapore where workers of all races and nationalities are respected.
There must be equal employment for the disabled and fair remuneration for locals/foreign workers on the basis of human dignity.
2. A more compassionate government that does more to help Singaporeans stay together, move ahead in the face of transport fare hike, medical cost hike, education fee hike and unequal estate upgrading.
3. An open political society with political discussion, debate, dissent and satire via any communications media.
Singaporeans closed ranks to accede to the building of IRs in the hope of more jobs and economic development.
Singaporeans have closed ranks to become a land of smiles as we host more global mega events.
Now Think Centre calls on the government and fellow Singaporeans to close ranks with us to build a vibrant political society in our global city-home.
Every Singaporean matters, so everyone's views, no matter how differing, must be heard without fear or favour.
This is my land of opportunities, my inclusivist society, my global city-home.
Happy Birthday Singapore!
