The March 13, 2007 article "Free treats for jobless in UK" just seems like blatant single "mum" bashing.
The New Paper published excerpts from the Daily Mail which just seems like single "mum" bashing. In its blatant distortion of the UK based Jobcentre plus programme "New Deal" which provides for among others the promotion of gender and race equality.
The course being offered are for single parents, people who have been ill, and those who are severely disabled, to get them back into the labour force.
Unfortunately, the Daily Mail, the source of the New Paper article is manipulative and does not seem to recognize the dignity of the single parent as human beings. But at least it did publish the view of the DWP - British Department of work and pension.
Its shameful that the New Paper is going into full spin bashing the "Single Mums" instead of promoting non-discrimination of single parents.
Moreover, the New Paper has deliberately deleted the views of the Department of work and pension. Why?
When will real gender equality - mainstreaming happen in Singapore?
"She said: 'The main purpose of the course is to remove some of the barriers lone parents face, to enable them to enter the labour market and to mentor them with a view to progressing to further support through the New Deal for Lone Parents. 'Participants find the course very rewarding and a significant number move on to the New Deal for Lone Parents, where further tailored support and advice is available.' |
Inspire to Independance is a private company who operate a contract to target client: lone parents unemployed 6 months plus in receipt of Income Support, Incapacity Benefit, Severe Disability Allowance, who have been referred by the jobcentre. There are very few referrals- less than 30 a year, and they offer an outreach facility offering help and guidance to access Jobcentre services, and employment training and preparation.
The 'so called' free shopping trips, is a 30 voucher to get clothes fit for an interview and the facials is a one off, offered to small groups, after a period of hard work, during which they had moved towards work, after a long time on benefits.
THe 'free childcare and lunches' refers to assistance with childcare, so that these women could attend the course- which helped them back into the workplace, and the free lunches were the lunch provided with the course(more likely a sandwich and a cup of tea).
